Most number of centuries in ODIs and Tests
Current record holder: Sachin Tendulkar (49 centuries in ODIs and 51 centuries in Tests)
Scoring a hundred in any format of the game is a great achievement for any batsman. However, former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar made scoring centuries an art. He started by scoring his first century in Tests at the age of 17 years but had to play more than 75 matches and five years from his ODI debut in 1989 to score his first century in ODIs.
But once he started, Sachin broke records after record, as he broke the long-standing Test 34-century record of Sunil Gavaskar in 2005, by scoring his 35th century. He had also broken Desmond Haynes' record of 17 ODI centuries in 1998 by scoring his 18th ton against Zimbabwe.
By the end, Sachin Tendulkar finished with 51 centuries in 200 Tests and 49 centuries in 463 ODI matches at the age of 40 in 2013. He is the first and only cricketer to score 100 centuries in international cricket.
Now Virat Kohli is 29-years-old and has 23 centuries in 69 Tests and 35 centuries in 211 ODI matches. He needs 15 more ODI hundreds and 29 more Test centuries to break Sachin’s record and given his fitness and century scoring ability, it is more than possible that both records will be broken by Virat Kohli in coming time.
Kohli is at the peak of his fitness and his form is constant; and is likely that by the time he calls time on his career, the record for most international centuries will be held by him.
