WATCH- “We have one more opportunity”- India captain Rohit Sharma eyes T20 World Cup 2024 glory

Rohit Sharma also spoke about the ODI World Cup final loss to Australia.

Rohit Sharma | BCCIIndia captain Rohit Sharma had made his T20I return after 14 months out of the format. Before the recently concluded Afghanistan T20Is, Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, last appeared in the format in November 2022.

India had then lost to England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 and its drought of ICC trophies continued, when despite remaining unbeaten till the summit clash in ICC World Cup 2023, India lost the final to Australia in Ahmedabad.

Following a triumphant 3-0 victory in the T20I series against Afghanistan, Rohit faced questions from the broadcasters Sports18 regarding the ODI World Cup setback.

To this, Rohit, who looked emotional, said: "I don't want to think about it now (World Cup loss). For me, 50 over World Cup is the biggest World Cup. It's not like I don't give that importance to the T20 World Cup and World Test Championship. We have been brought up seeing the 50-over World Cup. And when it is played in India, it's quite big."

With the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to take place from June 4 to 29 this year, hosted jointly by the West Indies and the United States, Rohit is aiming for the coveted trophy.

"We tried our best, but unfortunately we couldn't do it. The entire team was sad. I am sure the fans were sad too. But we have one more opportunity. We will try our best to use this opportunity in a better way to win the World Cup," an emotional Rohit said.
