India were behind in the game, but a counter-attack from Pant and Washington Sundar brought them back in the game. They put up a partnership of 113 runs after being 6 down on 146.

“It has come at such a crucial time for India. You asked me a question what you think he is going to do and I said that he will get to his hundred with a six, and that’s exactly what he has done. This is the bold India, this is India that believes in itself.

“This is the India that we all love, we all love. Look at that, look at the way he has given joy to those at the ground, to the millions watching this on television. Oh, this is amazing. This is so wonderful,” said Gavaskar while doing commentary on Star Sports.

Pant got out after scoring 101 to James Anderson. But before that, he had played a reverse sweep to James Anderson on 89 which put the viewers in awe.

India ended the day with 89 runs lead. They scored 294/7 with Sundar batting on 60* and Akshar Patel on 11* before stumps.
