The Indian squad was one of the most anticipated ones, given the amount of speculation for the batting option for no.4 spot in the lineup. There were also many doubts whether Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant will make it to the World Cup squad as a backup to MS Dhoni. All these speculations were laid to rest when BCCI announced the Indian squad.

Virat Kohli will lead the side with Rohit Sharma as his deputy. MS Dhoni is the first-choice wicketkeeper in the playing XI. The batting lineup is powered by Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar apart from the aforementioned players. India opted for three genuine pace bowlers in Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with Hardik Pandya being the all-rounder.

Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal make up the spin options, while Dinesh Karthik edged out Pant for the spot of the second wicketkeeper. India will play their first match against South Africa on June 5 and will lock horns with arch-rival Pakistan on June 16.

Ish Sodhi edged out Todd Astle as the second spinner in the team while Jimmy Neesham found himself in the squad over Corey Anderson. Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, and Tom Latham will power the Kiwi batting.
