Sachin Tendulkar, often considered to be the greatest Indian batsman ever, celebrates his 49th birthday today, April 24, 2022.
He was born in 1973 in Mumbai and started off as a teen prodigy, making his Test debut in 1989 at the age of 16 and going on to establish himself as the best of his generation. He carried the weight of the entire Indian batting unit for the much of 1990s and managed to prolong his career to 24 years.
This entailed him to many records as Sachin scored 15,921 runs in 200 Tests with 51 centuries and 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs with 49 centuries.

He holds the record for the first man to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket, the first man to play 200 Tests, score 100 international centuries, the first male cricketer to score a double hundred in ODI cricket, most runs in ODIs and Tests, most matches played in both formats and other numerous records.
After six attempts at winning a World Cup, Tendulkar finally realized his dream when India became world champions for the second time in 2011.
He also played in the Indian Premier League after being named as an icon player of Mumbai Indians. He captained the team to the final of the tournament in 2010, where he was named the MVP of the tournament. He won the IPL with the MI team in 2013 and then retired from all cricket the same year.
Post-retirement, he was honored with the highest civilian award of Bharat Ratna in 2014, becoming the first sportsperson to get this honor. He was the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1997 and player of the tournament in the 2003 World Cup.
Today as he celebrates his 49th birthday, Sachin Tendulkar received wishes from his peers and cricket fraternity.
One of them was Virat Kohli, who is considered to be the successor to Tendulakr's legacy. He wished the great man on his Instagram by posting a story.
