Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and commentator Deep Dasgupta said Prithvi Shaw is in great form with the bat and believes that he is enjoying success in recent times due to changes in his footwork and improved bat flow after a tough time last year.

Shaw is undoubtedly a talented and gifted player, but last year, he went through a tough time, lost his form, and was dropped from the Indian cricket team.

However, the young opener managed to stage a great comeback after having worked on some aspect of his game through the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) this year.

The 21-year-old scored more than 800 runs, including four centuries in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and then scored 308 runs in eight matches in the first half of the IPL 2021 and will now be seen in the upcoming limited-overs series in Sri Lanka starting on July 18 in Colombo.

Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel, “I think Prithvi Shaw is in great form. And obviously, he has changed quite a lot. During IPL, a few of us noticed that he has changed his footwork considerably. Earlier, he used beside the ball. Now, he's going back and across a lot more and he playing in the line of the ball. The bat flow has improved as it is coming from a lot closer instead of afar. Like we saw during the IPL, and even before that in the Vijay Hazare (Trophy) that it's been really effective for him.”

He concluded, “You just have to wait and see what he does at the international level because this is sort of a comeback. His talent is world-class and it's all about how converts that talent into performance.”
