Chances of Kuldeep and Chahal playing in T20 World Cup together 'unlikely'- Deep Dasgupta

Chances of Kuldeep and Chahal playing in T20 World Cup together 'unlikely'- Deep Dasgupta

The two have not played together in an ODI match since ICC World Cup 2019.

End of 'Kul-Cha'? | Getty Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, popularly known as ‘Kul-Cha’, have been India’s premier white-ball spinners since 2017. The duo was a very successful hunting pair for the first couple of years. However, things have gone downhill post ICC World Cup 2019.

While Yuzvendra Chahal has played more games than Kuldeep Yadav after the 2019 World Cup, the two have not played together in an ODI match since then. The rise of Ravindra Jadeja as the all-rounder due to Hardik Pandya not been able to bowl has added to their woes.

Deep Dasgupta, former Indian wicket-keeper, does not see the pair playing together in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. He thinks Rahul Chahar is the front runner for the spinner’s spot along with Ravindra Jadeja.

"At the moment, it looks unlikely. To be very honest, I see Rahul Chahar ahead of Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal). A lot will depend on the Sri Lanka series and obviously on the IPL as well," answered Deep Dasgupta to a question asked by a fan on his YouTube channel.

"As for Kuldeep, he has not been the preferred bowler for more than a year and a half. So, it looks unlikely to me as of now. I don't know what will happen in six months," he added.

The two spinners will be seen in action against Sri Lanka in a white ball tour starting on Sunday, 18 July. This will be India’s last white ball series before the T20 World Cup which will be held in UAE beginning on 17 October.
