Pakistan completed a comprehensive 95-run victory over South Africa in the second Test at Rawalpindi on Monday (February 8).
Chasing 370 in the fourth innings, the visitors were placed at 127/1 by stumps on Day 4 with Aiden Markram (59*) and Rassie van der Dussen (48*) unbeaten at the crease.
However, the Proteas suffered a horrible collapse on the final day as the pace duo of Hassan Ali and Shaheen Afridi ran through their batting line-up.
While Van der Dussen failed to add a run to his overnight tally, Markram held the innings together with a 107-run stand with Temba Bavuma (61). Thanks to their partnership, South Africa were cruising in the chase with 241/3 on the board at one stage.
But as soon as Hassan removed Markram on 108, South African batting line-up fell like a pack of cards, losing their last 7 wickets for just 33 runs to eventually get bundled out for 274.
For Pakistan, Hassan Ali returned with the figures of 5/60 in the second innings whereas Shaheen took 4 for 51. Ali had also claimed a fifer in South Africa’s first essay and hence he finished the match with his maiden 10-wicket haul in Test cricket.
By virtue of this victory, Babar Azam and company also inflicted a 2-0 whitewash over South Africa and the hosts were hailed by the Pakistani cricket fraternity on Twitter.
