Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan team created history as they defeated Bangladesh and qualified for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. In the process, they also knocked out Australia from the competition as well.
Afghanistan was asked to bat first by Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, and could only manage 115/5 in 20 overs with Rahmanullah Gurbaz top-scoring with 43 runs. Rashid Khan, the skipper also contributed 19* with 3 sixes in the end. Rishad Hossain of Bangladesh starred with three wickets.
In the final over, a furious Rashid Khan was seen showing anger to his partner Karim Janat after he refused a run, despite his captain showing intent for the same.
Rashid attempted a helicopter shot that he hoped would clear the border, but it fell short. Rashid quickly finished the first run and was eager to return for a second to maximize his score. However, Karim, who had reached the striker's end, declined the option for another run.
Rashid was already halfway down the pitch when Janat sent him back after Mahmudullah lost the ball and Shakib Al Hasan recovered it. Rashid Khan enraged, hurled his bat at Janat, a scene captured on television.
Even when Janat handed the bat to Rashid, the captain just turned his head in anger, muttering something.
