Team India registered a tense five-run victory (DLS method) over Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup 2022 clash at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday (November 2).
Asked to bat first, the Men in Blue posted a highly competitive 184/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Virat Kohli once again top-scored for India with 44-ball 64* while KL Rahul (50 off 32 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (30 off 16 balls) made notable contributions with the bat.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan (2-33) claimed a couple of wickets for Bangladesh while Taskin Ahmed (0-15) returned with an economical spell.
In reply, the Tigers got off to a blazing start as Litton Das tore the Indian bowling attack in the powerplay. Thanks to his 21-ball half-century, Bangladesh reached 66/0 after 7 overs before the rain came and the overs had to be curtailed.
While Bangladesh were 17 runs ahead of the DLS par score when the rain arrived, they got the revised target of 151 in 16 overs when the game resumed.
However, Rohit Sharma and his men held their nerves brilliantly post the rain interruption. Rahul’s direct hit got rid of the dangerous Litton Das (60 off 27 balls) in the 8th over, which triggered a collapse.
The Men in Green kept losing wickets at regular intervals as India slowly crawled into the game. Arshdeep Singh (2-38) and Hardik Pandya (2-28) picked two wickets each and defended 31 runs in the last two overs, restricting Bangladesh to 145/6.
Cricket fraternity lauded the Indian bowlers for their strong comeback after the rain break.
