Bangladesh batter Litton Das was like a man on a mission after his team was set a tough 185 runs to chase down against India in their Group 2 super 12s match which was played at Adelaide on November 2nd.
India batted first after Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Virat Kohli scored 64*, Suryakumar Yadav made 16-ball 30 and KL Rahul made 50 as India posted 184/6 in 20 overs. Hasan Mahmud picked 3/47 and Shakib took 2/33.
In reply, Litton Das and Najmul Hasan Shanto added 68 runs for the first wicket and were brilliant in going after the Indian bowlers in the first 7 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for 27 runs in his 3 over and even Arshdeep Singh gave 3 fours and Litton raced off to a 21-ball half-century.
However, a rain interruption turned the game around as Bangladesh was now to chase 151 runs in 16 overs and Litton trying to get back the same momentum went for a risky second run.
Najmul had hit the ball towards the deep midwicket where KL Rahul was patrolling and he picked the ball in one motion and let it rip towards the bowling end. Litton tried to make the ground by diving, but the direct hit caught him short and sent him back for 60 runs.
In the end, the rising required run rate was too much for Bangladesh, who despite a brave effort from Nurul Hasan (25* in 14 balls) and Taskin (12* in 7 balls), could only manage 145/6 and lost by 5 runs via DLS method.
