As the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is less than three months away, talks about the mega event have already begun among the cricket fraternity, with many suggesting their options for Team India.
Well, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter and commentator Deep Dasgupta became the latest to pass on his suggestions for India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, starting on October 16 in Australia.
He has picked KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma as his openers, while suggesting Prithvi Shaw’s name if India wants more options for the mega event in Australia. When it comes to wicket-keeper, the former cricketer said the Indian team has a lot of options for the role at the moment.
Furthermore, the commentator backed Dinesh Karthik to be India's finisher in the T20 World Cup 2022, while suggesting Rishabh Pant should provide some quick runs in the middle order.
Deep Dasgupta said in a video shared on YouTube by Crictracker: “KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma would be my first choice [for T20 World Cup]. As a third opener, you can look at options like Prithvi Shaw, who has done extremely well in that opener slot and gives you a different skill set.”
He added, “The way Prithvi starts, he might not give you 70s, 80s, or hundreds, but he can give you a brisk start. Ishan [Kishan], if you look at the internationals, he’s done alright. He starts well but lost his mojo a bit now in the last few games.”
On the wicket-keeping option: Dasgupta said: “There are a lot of wicket-keepers who are also good batters. They can fit into not only as keeper-batters but just as batters. Ishan, Pant, Rahul, Dinesh Karthik. Some players are still in work-in-progress mode like Jitesh Sharma. He has done well in IPL.”
Dasgupta signed off by saying, “I think there are quite a few options. I am also looking at them from a batting perspective. In such a case, you play 2-3 wicket-keepers in the playing XI. For example- KL Rahul as an opener, Rishabh Pant in the middle-order and Dinesh Karthik as a finisher.”
