SL v IND 2024: Team India dons ODI jersey with three stars over BCCI logo; fans wonder where the 3rd star came from

The first ODI of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka began at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on August 2, 2024. India had already won the T20I series 3-0 under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss on his ODI captaincy debut and chose to bat first. Indian team saw the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI XI, while KL Rahul was picked as wicketkeeper over Rishabh Pant. Shivam Dube was also chosen for his first ODI since 2019.

During the toss, eagle-eyed cricket fans noticed something exciting on the Team India jersey. The Indian cricket team is wearing a jersey with three stars just above the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) logo on the left side.

There were questions raised on social media as to why there were three stars on the Indian jersey. Some reasoned that the three stars denote India's successful campaigns at the 1983 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.
