Team India endured an innings and 32-run defeat in the opening Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The Indian batting line-up failed to step up as a unit in both innings, getting bowled out for 245 and 131 to lose the Test match inside three days.

Much was expected from Rohit Sharma but he failed to live up to the expectations in the Boxing Day Test, registering scores of 5 and 0 across the two innings. Proteas pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada dismissed the Indian captain in both innings.

After his twin failures in Centurion, Rohit seems eager to make a mark in the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town. On Saturday (December 30), the right-handed opener took part in an optional practice session in Centurion.

In a video shared by senior PTI correspondent Kushan Sarkar on X, Sharma can be seen honing his batting skills in the nets.

With the Centurion Test loss, India conceded an unassailable 1-0 lead to South Africa in the two-match Test series. The visiting team will reportedly fly to Cape Town for the New Year’s Test on Sunday (December 31).

The second and final Test is scheduled to get underway on January 3.
