Babar Azam | GettyThe International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, unveiled its ICC ODI Team of the Year for 2022 and features two Indian players. Pakistan’s Babar Azam has been named captain of the side.

Batter Shreyas Iyer, who had an exceptional outing in ODIs in 2022 for India has been slotted at no.4 in the ICC ODI Team of the Year. Iyer played 17 games during the calendar year and scored 724 runs at an average of 55.69. He scored his runs at a brisk pace of 91.52, which included one century and six fifties.

Thanks to his fantastic outing with the bat and prolific scoring against spin on home wickets, he has most likely confirmed his spot in the Indian squad for the 2023 World Cup.

The second Indian in the XI is pacer Mohammed Siraj, who emerged as the leader of the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. He has bowled with enthusiasm and skills and given India wickets in powerplay overs.

Delivering with both the new and old ball, Siraj played 15 matches and picked up 24 wickets. His wickets came at an economy of 4.62 and an average of 23.50, with best figures of 3/29. Like Iyer, Siraj has more or less reserved his place in the Indian squad for the ODI World Cup later this year in India.
