IPL 2024: “Completely fake...,” PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta rubbishes 'will bet life to get Rohit Sharma as captain' quote

Reports had claimed that Zinta is keen to bring Rohit as PBKS captain.

Rohit Sharma | BCCI-IPLPunjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta on Friday (April 19) rubbished the reports claiming that she had made a remark about bringing in Rohit Sharma as the captain of her IPL team.

Zinta was quoted in a report as saying that she would 'bet her life' to get Rohit as the skipper of PBKS if he enters into the mega auction next year.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Zinta wrote: "All these articles are completely fake & baseless. I hold Rohit Sharma in very high regard & am a big fan of his, but I have NEVER DISCUSSED him in any interview nor made this STATEMENT ! I also have a lot of respect for Shikhar Dhawan & he being currently injured, makes these articles appear in very poor taste. These articles are a perfect example of how misinformation is picked up without any verification & circulated online. I humbly request all Media to refrain from circulating this & embarrassing all concerned parties. All I want to say is that we have a great team currently & our only focus is to win games & make the most out of #IPL2024 Thank you. @PunjabKingsIPL".

Rohit Sharma is currently plying his trade in the IPL 2024 for Mumbai Indians (MI). Ahead of the tournament, he was sacked as captain. Since then, it has been speculated that Rohit might part ways with MI, whom he led to five IPL titles in his 11-year stint as skipper.

The Mumba-based franchise handed over the leadership responsibilities to all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who completed a high-profile trade from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians before the season.

Under Pandya’s captaincy, MI have played seven matches in the IPL 2024 so far, winning three and losing four. They are currently occupying seventh spot in the 10-team points table.

In their last outing, Mumbai Indians defeated Punjab Kings by 9 runs in a high-scoring thriller to earn two crucial points.
