As the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has predicted that Rohit Sharma would have a great IPL 2023 season.

The legendary batter believes that the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain will do something very special in the upcoming IPL 2023, starting on March 31, with the bat. He also talked about MI’s strength and weakness as well ahead of the upcoming season.

Notably, Rohit had a really terrible last season while MI finished last in the points table, but Gavaskar feels things would be different this year as they have a trump card in Jofra Archer.

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports:Jofra Archer is one (trump card) for sure. Ishan Kishan after his ODI double hundred will be somebody to watch out for as well. And I think Rohit Sharma will do something really special this season.”

He added, “I think their strength will be the presence of Jofra Archer. He can pick wickets upfront and also bowl a couple of overs in the end, block the runs and pick up wickets as well. I think it (weakness) could really be a spin combination. They've got a love new-ball attack but the spin combination just looks a little bit light.”

Notably, Mumbai Indians (MI) will kick off their IPL 2023 campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru on April 2, 2023.
