Team India managed to beat the clock and the weather in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur to register a 7-wicket win and pocket the series 2-0. This also meant that Team India pocketed 24 important points in the World Test Championship (WTC 2025) cycle as well.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 233 in their first innings after the play resumed on day four after days 2 and 3 were washed out due to rain and a wet outfield. Mominul Haque continued from 40* compiled an amazing century and remained unbeaten on 107 in 194 balls.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, while Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and R Ashwin took two wickets each.
In response, Indian batters went after the Bangladeshi bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 in 51) and Rohit Sharma (23) added 55 runs for the first wicket in 3.5 overs. India reached its fifty in just 19 balls, the fastest ever.
Jaiswal got out for 71 runs, Shubman Gill fell for 39 and then Rishabh Pant perished for 9 runs. But then Virat Kohli (47 in 35) and KL Rahul (68 in 43 balls) took India to 285/9d. India managed to break world records for fastest team 100, 150, 200, and 250 in Test cricket with their blistering batting.
Bangladesh ended day 4 on 26/2, trailing 26 runs. On day five, many expected Bangladesh to play out the overs and push the game towards a draw. And were succeeding as well, as Bangladesh reached 91/3 at one stage.
But then Ravindra Jadeja came onto the scene and picked three wickets in three overs. Soon Bangladesh was reduced to 94/7 and bowled out for 146 runs despite Mushfiqur’s brilliant 37 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets as India was set for 95 runs to win the Test.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his second fifty of the match, scoring 51 in 45, while Virat Kohli made 29* as India won the game by 7 wickets in the end. India also pocketed the series 2-0.
Yashasvi Jaiswal won the Player of the Match award for his twin fifties, while R Ashwin won the Player of the Series for 114 runs and 11 wickets.
India now has 8 wins and 2 losses from 11 Tests and has 98 points to their name and a PCT of 74.24 in the WTC 2025 table.
