During the 75th over of India’s innings, England took a review after Rahane was given not out by the on-field umpire off Jack Leach’s bowling.
Initially, there was an absolute flat line on UltraEdge when the ball went past the bat. But another angle showed that the ball popped up off the pad and then brushed Rahane's gloves before landing at short leg.
However, third umpire Anil Chaudhary didn’t bother checking that and he was criticized by former England skipper Michael Vaughan on Twitter.
“Is the Third umpire pissed .. !!!! He is having a stinker ..,” Vaughan tweeted.
Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell was also left stunned by the umpiring gaffe.
“How can a third umpire not look at that?!?!”, Maxwell wrote.
Luckily for England, the umpiring error didn’t cost them much as Rahane was dismissed in the very next over by Moeen Ali for 67.
Rahane’s dismissal saw India losing half their side for 249 in the first innings.
