IND v BAN 2019: Bharat Arun praises India's pace trio after routing Bangladesh in Indore

Played on a sporting track offering everyone a fair chance, Indore Test was one of those rare ones in India where the pacers did the bulk of the damage. Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav picked up 14 wickets between them as India hammered Bangladesh inside three days by an innings and 130 runs.

India not only went 1-0 up in the two-match series but also earned crucial points towards the World Test Championship.

It was only apt then, that the trio earned rich praise from bowling coach Bharat Arun after the win as he shed light on each of their strengths.

"Ishant is probably the most experienced bowler we have. He has played over 90 Test matches," Arun told reporters on Saturday (November 16). "He felt that he needs the batsmen to play a lot more. It was about him trying to experiment with different angles. What he's doing now, suits his bowling best."

"Umesh showed a lot of character in coming back. But then that's also an embarrassment of riches (with Bumrah on his way to recovery)."

"Shami has always had the speed. It's not fair to compare but if you look at bowlers all around, Shami's got probably the best seam position. And one way to maintain the speed is he's spent a lot of work doing his fitness," Arun added.

"There is a perfect balance between fitness and the bowling he does. I think that works very well for Shami and that's the secret behind it."

Arun said it had been a collective endeavour to firstly develop a fast bowling culture and then not only become the No.1 ranked Test side but also maintain the pinnacle position.

"I think at present we are the no. 1 team in the world. Getting there is difficult, staying there is even more difficult. I think to do that over a period of three years, you need to stay constantly hungry."

"You have five fast bowlers (Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah included) who are ready to play for the country. And over a period of time if you can manage the workloads well, we can ensure that each one is nice and fresh for every game that we play," he added.
