Team India continued their supremacy in red-ball cricket as they thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs in the first Test at Indore.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh were bundled out for a paltry 150 with pace troika of Mohammad Shami (3/27), Ishant Sharma (2/20) and Umesh Yadav (2/47) claiming seven wickets between them.

In reply, the hosts piled up a mammoth 493/6 (declared) on the back of opener Mayank Agarwal’s career-best 243.

Batting in the second innings, the tourists once again got bamboozled by India’s pace battery. Shami (4/31), Umesh (2/51) and Ishant (1/31) ran through their batting line-up and eventually bowled them out for 213.

After the match, India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour said they were not expecting the match to end within three days and felt the visitors decision to bat after winning the toss didn't work in their favour.

"Our bowling has been good. I think their decision to bat first did not work in their favour. That is why it ended in three days. We were really not expecting that," he said in the post-match press conference.

Praising Agarwal for his second double ton in Test cricket, Rathour said: "Mayank has joined the team after playing a lot of domestic cricket and doing a lot of hard work and that hunger is visible in his batting. He wants to hold on to his place. If he continues, it will be great for the Indian cricket team."

Meanwhile, bowling coach Bharat Arun hailed the team for sustaining the No.1 position in the longest format for three years.

"I think, at present, we are the number one team in the world. Getting there is difficult but staying there is even more difficult. So, being the number one team over a period of three years, you need to stay consistently hungry," Arun said.

He also showered rich praise on Shami, who was India’s best bowler across the two innings of Indore Test.

"Shami always had the speed and I think he has the best seam position in world cricket. One way to maintain the speed that he has been doing is that he has done a lot of work on his fitness."
