India’s young opening batsman Shubman Gill continued to impress cricketing greats and fans with his batting in Australia and the latest one is Michael Hussey.

Gill, playing just his second Test in Australia hit 8 fours on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) to complete his maiden Test fifty on Friday (January 8).

Gill made his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test at MCG – where he made 45 runs and now in the Sydney Test, the right-hander looked more confident as he notched up his maiden fifty (50 off 101 balls) to become the 4th youngest Indian opener to score a fifty outside Asia.

Well, Hussey, who was commentating while Gill was at the crease, was particularly impressed with the way the 21-year-old took the Australian attack on and played some amazing shots during his innings, saying the youngster is very quickly becoming his favorite player to watch.

Hussey said on Sony TV: This guy is very quickly becoming my favorite player to watch. He is a gun. Plays well of the front-foot, but even better off the backfoot. And that sends a message to the bowler.”

“I just love the unflappable nature of both (Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma) these players. But in particular Shubman Gill, someone so young, early in his career. Nothing seems to faze him, and he doesn’t seem to get carried away.”

The Aussie signed off, “He is flamboyant at the crease and is just about batting, keeping it simple. Unassuming at the crease. He is wonderful to watch and has played some magnificent shots,”
