India defeated West Indies in the fourth T20I of the five-match series by 9 wickets on August 12, 2023 thanks to stupendous batting by openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal who hammered quick half-centuries as the series was leveled 2-2.
Chasing 179 to win the match, Jaiswal (84*) and Gill (77) added 165 runs for the opening wicket, a record-equaling feat, as India won the match quite comfortably.
Earlier, West Indies captain Rovman Powell had won the toss and chosen to bat first. And despite a decent start, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh removed both openers, Kyle Mayers (17) and Brandon King (18), cheaply.
He then came back in the second spell to remove the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer for 61 runs as West Indies posted 178/8. Arshdeep finished with 3/38, while Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets.
After the match, Arshdeep Singh sat in conversation with fellow Punjab teammate Shubman Gil and talked about his performance in a video shared by BCCI on their social media accounts.
Speaking about the pitch, Arshdeep said he read the conditions quickly. “I read the conditions quickly and realized that it is pretty flat. I bowled slower ones on my hard length,” he told Shubman Gill.
Arshdeep’s father Darshan Singh and elder brother Akashdeep Singh were in stands in the fourth T20I against West Indies.
“It was pre-planned. Father is in Canada to play in some tournament. So he tagged along with my brother and came to the USA to watch me play. There was a bit of extra support. There was pressure also to perform well in front of them,” he added.
