Shubman Gill has been on fire with the bat in 2023, as the young Indian opener achieved his career-best ranking in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Ranking. Gill surpassed Pakistan captain Babar Azam to become the new No. 1 ODI batter in the latest ICC player rankings.
After dethroning Babar, the right-hander became only the fourth Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli to hold the No. 1 ODI batter position at the ICC player rankings.
Shubman Gill took to Instagram to express his gratitude after achieving the latest feat. However, Gill opted to keep things short, as the Indian batter reacted to the news with three words. Gill shared the BCCI creative of him becoming no.1 on his Instagram story and wrote, “Numero Uno. Grateful.”
Meanwhile, Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav congratulated Gill after he became the number-one batter in the latest ICC Men’s ODI player rankings.
Suryakumar re-shared that same creative on his Instagram story and wrote, “No surprise, stay there”.
Notably, it has been a remarkable year for the 23-year-old, amassing 1449 runs so far from 26 ODIs at an average of 63.00 in the 2023 season. The Indian opener scored 219 runs for India in six innings at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
He will be next seen in action in India’s next Cricket World Cup 2023 game against the Netherlands on November 12 in Bengaluru. The Men in Blue have already qualified for the CWC 2023 semifinals.
