CWC 2023: “Cite source or apologise!”- Gautam Gambhir slams online news portal for fake quote on Virat Kohli

As per the fake quote, Gambhir took a dig at Virat Kohli after Glenn Maxwell's 201*

Virat Kohli | GettyFormer India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has slammed an online news portal for crediting him with a fake quote about Virat Kohli with regards to Glenn Maxwell’s stupendous knock against Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

Maxwell carried Australia from 91/7 to victory, chasing 292 runs in Mumbai the other day. He scored 201* in 128 balls, the first-ever double ton by an Australian as they defeated Afghanistan by 3 wickets and booked their spot in the CWC 2023 semi-finals.

An article by News18 claimed that Gautam Gambhir took a dig at Virat Kohli saying that while Glenn Maxwell hit a six to get to his double ton from 195, Kohli would’ve taken 5 singles instead.

CWC 2023: “Selfish vs Selfless approach,” Hafeez takes a dig at Kohli while praising Stokes; Vaughan gives him befitting reply

The fake quote stated: “Virat Kohli would have taken singles on 195 if had he been there. But Glenn Maxwell chose to hit six that’s what makes him different."

However, Gautam Gambhir the 2011 World Cup winner, rubbished the quote and called it fake. He even admonished the News18 portal and asked them to either cite the source or apologize. Gambhir posted a screenshot of the post by News18 on X showing the said fake quote.

He posted: “What bullsh*t! When I say something I say it openly. To all the so-called verified handles - cite source or apologise!”

Notably, just a few days ago, Gambhir was a bit critical of Kohli's batting approach during his unbeaten century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Gambhir felt that Kohli slowed down in the death overs against the Proteas so that he could get to his 49th ODI hundred and equal Sachin Tendulkar's world record.
