Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) captain Aiden Markram led from the front as they defeated Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the second semifinal of the inaugural SA20 on Thursday, February 9, and qualified for the finals.
JSK captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl first at Supersport Park in Centurion and had a good start as Temba Bavuma got out for a first-ball duck and Adam Rossington made 6 runs. Jordan Hermann made 48, but the best knock came from captain Aiden Markram, who made 100 in 58 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes.
Tristan Stubbs made 20 and Jordan Coz made 18* in 6 balls as SEC posted 213/5 in 20 overs. Lizaad Williams picked 4/36 for JSK.
In reply, Faf du Plessis got out on the first ball of the JSK innings and Leus de Plooy followed suit for a duck. Though Reeza Hendricks made 96 with 11 fours and 4 sixes, Donovan Ferreira made 20 and Romario Shepherd did his best, making 38* in 14 balls, JSK could only manage 199/6 and lost by 14 runs.
With 340 runs in 11 games, Markram is now the fourth-highest run-getter this season. And now in a viral video, after Markram got to his hundred, the camera panned towards the stands where his family was sitting and his father Kyle and wife Nicole were seen with tears in their eyes, as Markram celebrated his century.
