Former India opener Murali Vijay on Friday (February 10) took offence to Sanjay Manjrekar’s words on-air during the second day’s play in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia in Nagpur.
While commentating in the first session on Day 2, Manjrekar expressed his surprise when a stat came up on the screen showing that Vijay had the best conversion rate (50s to 100s) for India at home in Tests.
The graphic showed that Vijay’s conversion rate is 60% and he is ahead of the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin, Polly Umrigar, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the list.
“I am surprised to see Murali at the top,” Manjrekar said on-air.
Murali Vijay, who must have been watching the Test match, was left livid by Manjrekar’s comments as he took to Twitter and wrote: “@sanjaymanjrekar Surprised wow”.
In another tweet, Vijay wrote: “Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south ! #showsomelove #equality #fairplayforall @sanjaymanjrekar @BCCI”.
Notably, Murali Vijay announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket last month. The 38-year-old represented India in 61 Tests, amassing 3982 runs at an average of 38.28 with 12 hundreds and 15 half-centuries. He also featured in 17 ODIs and 9 T20Is, scoring 339 and 169 runs respectively.
