Argentina on Sunday (December 18), ended the nation's wait of 36 years for their third FIFA World Cup title by defeating defending champions France on penalties in a topsy-turvy final at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, after the teams had ended 3-3 in extra-time.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi signed off from the global tournament on the greatest high with the trophy as he scored two out of the team's three goals in the final. He also won the 'Golden Ball' award for being the Player-of-the-Tournament after scoring goals in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and the final - the first time any player has achieved this feat.

Kylian Mbappe of France scored a stunning hat-trick to bring the two-time winners back into contention twice but ended up on the losing side after Argentina clinched the penalties by 4-2.
