WATCH: One-minute silence observed in India-Sri Lanka and Pakistan-Australia Tests for Shane Warne

Shane Warne | GettyCricket fraternity on Friday (March 4) was left shocked as Australian spin legend Shane Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack.

The 52-year-old was found unresponsive in his villa in Thailand and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived.

Ahead of the second day’s play between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali Test, one-minute silence was observed for Warne and Rod Marsh, who also passed away on the same day due to cardiac arrest.

“A minute’s silence was observed before the start of play on Day 2 of the first Test for Rodney Marsh and Shane Warne who passed away yesterday. The Indian Cricket Team is also wearing black armbands today,” the official handle of the Indian cricket team on Instagram.

One-minute silence was also observed in Pindi Stadium before the second day’s play between Pakistan and Australia in the remembrance of Shane Warne and Peshawar blast victims.

Shane Warne was widely regarded as the greatest spinner to have played the game. He represented Australia in 145 Tests, claiming 708 wickets at an average of 25.42 with 37 five-wicket hauls. He also picked up 293 wickets in 194 ODIs and was part of Australia’s triumphant 1999 World Cup team.

Following the international retirement, Warne showed his leadership credentials in the Indian Premier League (IPL), guiding Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the title in the inaugural season in 2008.
