Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag recalled the famous words of Australia head coach Justin Langer after India's women hockey team defeated Australia in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics on Monday (August 2).

Earlier this year, Langer had said one massive lesson that he has learned from the Test series against India is to “never ever, ever underestimate” the Indians.

After India's women's hockey team won the match by 1-0, Sehwag posted a tweet and congratulated them for the brilliant effort. India have qualified for the semi-final where they will face Argentina for a place in the final.

"Never ever ever underestimate the Indians. Once again, the mighty spirit, the great self- belief and never say die attitude at the forefront and a victory to remember for a lony long time. Brilliant effort from our girls @TheHockeyIndia," he wrote.

India scored the victory goal after Gurjit Kaur successfully converted a penalty corner in the 22nd minute of the game. Australia were the favorite to win the match but India stunned them with their best gameplay of the ongoing Olympics.

There was uncertainty over their qualification to the knockout stage, but the India women's hockey team's back-to-back wins in the last two group stage matches and a favorable outcome between Great Britain and Ireland sealed their place in the Olympic quarter-finals after 41 years.
