India's all-rounder Washington Sundar got a warm welcome on return from a successful Australia tour. Washington, who played the last Test match at the Gabba, scored 62 in the first innings and an important cameo of 29-ball 22 to win the match.
Washington had put up a partnership of 123-run with Shardul Thakur in the first innings which kept India alive in the contest after a middle-order failure. He also picked four wickets in the match which includes Steve Smith's priceless scalp and later David Warner's wicket in the second innings.
A journalist shared a video of the 21-year-old welcomed by his family members and neighbors in Chennai. He will have to undergo a mandatory quarantine for six days as per the protocols by the Tamil Nadu government.
Washington will soon join the Indian cricket team for the first two Tests against England. He has been named in the squad for the two-Test matches in Chennai. The series begins on February 5.
