Former Netherlands captain and its junior coach Peter Borren has heaped rich praise on the South African batting legend AB de Villiers for the way he is still scoring runs in the franchise tournaments across the world even after retirement from international cricket in 2018.
The swashbuckling Proteas batsman is still topping a few batting charts across the world in the shortest format of the game and looks at his very best whenever he steps out to the field and leaves an impression each time.
De Villiers, one of the most valuable players in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2020 in the UAE – where the dashing right-hander has so far scored 230 runs from 8 outings at an average of 46 and strike rate of 179.
Former South African skipper has cracked 20 fours and 13 sixes in the ongoing IPL season so far and these stats show his class, quality and why he is an X-factor for the RCB in the IPL over the years . He has been doing a brilliant job for the RCB and has been an inspiration for all, because of the way he shows dedication towards the game – that’s something encouraged Borren to put him above all.
Borren believes that none of the modern batting stars mentioning Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Babar Azam have the class that De Villiers has, saying the Mr. 360 is still better than all of them including the fab four of the current generation.
He wrote on Twitter on 14th October: “The ‘big four’ chat you hear sometimes about Smith, Williamson, Kohli and Babar/Root is funny because Ab de Villiers is better than all of them,”
Noteworthy, De Villiers scored 8765 runs in 114 Tests at an average of 50.66 and 9577 runs in 228 ODIs at an average of 53.5 for South Africa.
