Dean Jones dies of a cardiac arrest at 59; international cricket fraternity mourns his demise

Dean Jones played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for Australia and won the 1987 World Cup as well.

Dean Jones and Allan Border with the 1987 World Cup trophyDean Jones, former Australia cricketer-turned-commentator shocking passed away at the age of 59 in Mumbai. He was in the city as part of Star Sports India’s expert commentary panel for the ongoing IPL 2020.

On Thursday, at around 11 am, Jones, after finishing his breakfast, attended a conference session for the day's IPL broadcast and then was chatting with colleagues in the corridor of the hotel he was staying in South Mumbai.

 Suddenly, to everybody's shock, Jones fell down and collapsed, following which he was rushed in a standby ambulance to the Harkisandas Hospital in the city. The hospital authorities declared him dead on arrival. The pertinent authorities will issue a statement soon after the procedures are over, including a post-mortem.

Shocked Indian cricket fraternity pays respects to Dean Jones who passed away at 59

Broadcaster Star India has issued this statement and confirmed his demise and paid respects to the former cricketer. They also mentioned that they were in touch with the Australian High Commission to make the necessary arrangements.

The entire cricket fraternity and fans were shocked and saddened at the sudden death of one of the most loved commentators in the world today. Many of the international cricketers, present and former took to Twitter to pay tributes to one of the best people in world cricket.
