Laxman pointed out Yuvraj’s heroics during the triumphant 2011 World Cup campaign despite battling health issues.

"An inspiration to many through his successful conquest of cancer, it's scarcely believable that @YUVSTRONG12 carried the team on his shoulders at the 2011 World Cup when gravely unwell. That he registered his highest ODI score after his recovery is a tribute to his unwavering spirit," Laxman tweeted.

Overwhelmed by the kind words, the southpaw felt grateful that Laxman shared his story on the Cancer Survivors Day.

Notably, the Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in June and this year it happens to be on 7th.

Yuvraj Singh, who retired from international cricket last year, was awarded Player-of-the-Tournament in India’s 2011 World Cup victory for his 362 runs and 15 wickets in the competition. He had played in the showpiece event while suffering from an illness and vomiting blood. The illness was later diagnosed as cancer on his left lung.

Subsequently, Yuvraj took a sabbatical from cricket for his treatment at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston, United States and eventually made a return to competitive cricket in September 2012. Since then the 38-year-old is doing his bit for the cancer patients by running a foundation called ‘YouWeCan’.
