“Dravid responded to every challenge; a committed student of the game,” says Laxman

Laxman and Dravid twice added 300 plus runs together in Tests against Australia.

Dravid and Laxman playing for IndiaVVS Laxman, regarded as one of the finest batsmen to play for the Indian cricket team, has paid rich tributes to his former teammate Rahul Dravid. He called him the ultimate team man and someone who took on challenges head-on.  

"The game's most committed student, Rahul was the ultimate team man, responding to every challenge with complete dedication," Laxman said in a tweet on Wednesday.

"Despite being in a position to say 'no', he not only kept wicket in white-ball cricket and opened the batting in Tests, but did so with utmost diligence," he added about Dravid who is called ‘The Wall’.

Dravid represented India in 164 Tests, 344 ODIs, and one T20I in which he scored 13288, 10899, and 31 runs respectively. He also kept wickets for India from 1999-2004 in which he affected 84 dismissals, including 71 catches and 13 stumpings.

However, the duo of Laxman and Dravid are remembered for their brilliant 376-run partnership in the 2001 Kolkata Test against Australia which helped India win the Test after being made to follow on.

They once again added more than 300 runs together, once again against Australia, this time in their own home in the Adelaide Test of 2003-04 series. Dravid made 233 and Laxman made 148, as India registered a brilliant win by 4 wickets.
