Rohit Sharma had a bumper series against South Africa | AFPIndia’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma is celebrating his 33rd birthday today on April 30. Born in Nagpur in 1987, Rohit Sharma was trained in cricket by Dinesh Lad and played Ranji trophy for Mumbai.

He made his ODI and T20I debut in 2007 but had to wait for a Test debut till 2011. He marked the occasion with two back to back hundreds in his first two Test matches, while already establishing himself as a limited-overs player. His fortunes turned in 2013 when MS Dhoni made him open the batting and with Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit formed a deadly combination at the top.

He also scored a third double ton, against Sri Lanka, this time as captain. He also has four centuries in T20I format, the most, including the joint-fastest ton in 35 balls, coming against Sri Lanka again.

He also got to open in Test matches against South Africa last year and celebrated it with a double ton, two centuries in the same Test, and much more.

Rohit has also captained India with aplomb winning the 2018 Asia Cup and the Nidahas T20 tri-series in Sri Lanka. Apart from his achievements in international cricket, Rohit Sharma has won the IPL 5 times, with 4 of those title wins coming as the captain of Mumbai Indians.
