During his illustrious Test career, South Africa pacer Dale Steyn bowled a number of jaw-dropping spells and helped his team register historic series wins.
Whether it was South Africa’s Test series win down under in 2008-09 and 2012-13, series win on English soil in 2012, playing a drawn series in India during the 2008 and 2010 tours among others, Steyn had played an instrumental role in all.

Therefore, picking his best bowling spells is one heck of a task. But Steyn himself on Sunday (April 12) singled out the top two spells of his Test career.
During a Question-Answer session on Twitter, a fan asked Steyn about his “best spell” in cricket. To which, he replied: “Nagpur (7 against India) and Wanderers (6 against Pakistan).”
Notably, both the spells of Steyn resulted in South Africa’s resounding victories. While his seven-wicket haul in 2010 Nagpur Test gave the Proteas an innings and 6-run victory, the six-fer during the 2013 Johannesburg Test saw his team registering a 211-run win.
Steyn claimed the wickets of Murali Vijay, Sachin Tendulkar, S Badrinath, Wriddhiman Saha, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra to finish with the figures of 7-51 against India in Nagpur.
In the Test match against Pakistan at Wanderers, Steyn returned with the figures of 6 for 8 in the first innings to bowl out the visitors for just 49. Mohammad Hafeez, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Saeed Ajmal, and Rahat Ali were his victims in that fantastic spell.
After a series of injuries, Dale Steyn called time on his Test career last year. The speedster represented South Africa in 93 Tests, claiming 439 wickets at an average of 22.95 with 26 five-wicket hauls.
