Rich praise came his way as India's newly promoted opener Rohit Sharma went on to score a memorable double hundred on Day 2 of the third Test against South Africa in Ranchi. 

Rohit converted his third hundred of this series into an epic double ton; making 212 off just 255 deliveries in an innings that had twenty eight fours and six maximums. 

He helped India recover from early jitters when opener Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli got out cheaply in quick succession in the first session on Day 1. 

Rohit stitched a fourth-wicket partnership of 267 runs with fellow centurion Ajinkya Rahane to then resurrect the team's position and once again assert dominance on the proceedings. 

He finally got out caught at deep fine-leg off Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada. 

There were question marks raised over the Indian team management's decision of promoting Rohit to open the batting in Tests before this series but the 32-year-old has vindicated the call at least in these conditions.
