SA v IND 2021-22: ‘Time running out’, Indian cricket fraternity reacts as Pujara, Rahane endure another failure

Pujara and Rahane got out for 3 and 0 in the first innings of the second Test against South Africa.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane | GettyVeteran India batters Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane endured another failure on Day 1 of the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Before this series, the duo was under the scanner for their poor display lately. While Pujara has failed to score a century for almost three years, Rahane’s average dropped below 40 last year.

With skipper Virat Kohli not playing the second Test due to back spasm, Pujara and Rahane were expected to raise their game. However, both of them got out cheaply in the first innings at the Wanderers on Monday (January 3).

Pujara scored 3 off 33 balls before getting out whereas Rahane bagged a golden duck. Both the seasoned batters were dismissed by lanky pacer Duanne Olivier.

With the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari and others waiting to get consistent opportunities, this could well be the last Test match or series for Pujara and Rahane if they fail to step up to the plate.

Indian cricket fraternity too feels that time is running out for Pujara and Rahane in the longest format of the game.
