IND v WI 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as India defeats West Indies by 6 wickets in 1st ODI

India played its 1000th ODI game, with Rohit playing his first match as full-time one-day captain.

Rohit Sharma scored 60 in 1st game as full-time ODI captain | BCCIThe Indian team registered their first win of the new year 2022 as they defeated West Indies in the first match of the three-ODI series on February 6, 2022, in Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, in what was the Men in Blue’s 1000th ODI match as well.

This was also the first ODI when Rohit Sharma led India as a full-time captain, winning the toss and choosing to bowl first.

The Indian bowlers decimated the top order of the West Indian team, as they slumped to 79/7 with Yuzvendra Chahal picking 4/49 and Washington Sundar taking 3/30. Jason Holder and Fabien Allen (27) added 78 runs for the 8th wicket, with Holder making 57 with 4 sixes.

Chahal and Sundar picked 7 wickets in between them | BCCIBut once this partnership was broken, the West Indies crumbled to 176 all-out with Prasidh Krishna taking two wickets as well.

Though the chase should have been a smooth one, especially after Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan (28) added 84 runs in 13 overs. Rohit made 60 in 51 with 10 fours and 1 six, while Kohli fell for 8 and Rishabh Pant was run out for 11 runs.

At 116/4, Suryakumar Yadav and debutant Deepak Hooda came together and took the team past the finishing line without any further damage. Yadav made 34* with 5 fours and Hooda made 26* in a matured innings as India finished on 178/4.

India won the match in the 28th over with 6 wickets in hand in their 1000th ODI to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. Yuzvendra Chahal was named the Player of the Match.

The cricket fraternity was elated at a good performance by the Indian batters and bowlers and lauded them on Twitter.
