The Barsapara cricket ground in Guwahati, Assam hosted the second T20I between India and South Africa on October 2nd and South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first.
The Indian team was unchanged, while Lungi Ngidi replaced Tabraiz Shamsi in the Proteas XI. This was also Rohit Sharma’s 400th T20 match and he became the first Indian to reach this milestone.
He also played a good knock at the start, scoring 43 in 37 balls with 7 fours and 1 six, adding 96 runs for the first wicket with KL Rahul, who smoked 57 in just 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. When Keshav Maharaj got rid of both batters, they didn’t imagine the hurricane that was coming for them.
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav then went after the Proteas bowlers from ball one and in the fifth gear and didn’t let off the pressure. They added 102 runs for the third wicket in just 42 balls with Suryakumar making 61 in 22 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes and completed his 1000 runs in T20Is as well.

But then Virat Kohli continued the onslaught scoring 49* in 28 balls with 7 fours and 1 six to his name. Dinesh Karthik gave the perfect finish to the innings as he hit 17* in 7 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes as India finished on 237/3 in 20 overs. This was India’s 4th highest T20I total.
Keshav Maharaj with 2/23 was the best bowler for South Africa, while Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell went for 57 and 54 runs respectively.
