After the entertaining 2-1 T20I series win, India will square off against England in the first ODI of the three-match series on July 12, 2022, at The Oval in London. The series will then move on to the second ODI at Lord’s on July 14 and will end with the third match coming on July 17 at Old Trafford.

While the focus was on T20Is given the T20 World Cup 2022 is coming up, 50-over cricket cannot be marginalized given its importance with the World Cup coming up in 2023 as well. This series gives both the teams to give their fringe players some game time who otherwise would be playing domestic tournaments.

For India, it is a huge chance to check their bench strength in the ODI format, and keeping this in mind, here is the COC Predicted Indian playing XI for the first ODI against England.  

ENG v IND 2022: “My focus is definitely on next year’s World Cup”, says Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan will be back in action as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner in the 50-over format. However, as reported previously, Virat Kohli is likely to miss this match after he suffered a groin injury during the third T20I match and the team management wants him to take it easy.

This means Shreyas Iyer is expected to get a chance at the no.3 spot with hot in-form Suryakumar Yadav taking the no.4 spot. Yadav is coming off a maiden T20I century and has everything a batter needs to succeed in any format of the game.

Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja will form the remainder of the batting order, given their prowess to hit big shots and even consolidate the innings in case a collapse happens.

Pandya will be returning to ODI cricket after 2021 when he played against Sri Lanka. It remains to be seen how much bowling he does out of his 10-over quota.

Yuzvendra Chahal is expected to be the second spinner in the playing XI, given England batter’s difficulty in playing leg-spin.

The fast-bowling contingent will be happy bowling at the Oval ground and is expected to feature Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and possibly one of Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, or even Arshdeep Singh.

However, Prasidh Krishna is expected to get the nod ahead given how good he was in his previous matches.
