ENG v IND 2022: England announces XI for 5th Test against India; James Anderson returns, Sam Billings retained

India leads the series 2-1 and England need to win to level the series.

James Anderson replaces Jamie Overton in England XI for India Test | GettyThe England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced England playing XI for the rescheduled fifth Test match against India which will begin on July 1 in Edgbaston. England trails in the 5-Test series 1-2 and need to win this match to level the series.

England has gone in with the same batting lineup which played against New Zealand in the third Test at Leeds recently. Alex Lees and Zak Crawley get another chance to impress and cement their places in the England XI.

Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Ben Stokes form a very scary-looking middle-order with all of them having a bucket load of runs behind them in the recent series. Sam Billings replaces Ben Foakes who had contracted Covid during the Headingley Test match.

Matthew Potts, who was highly impressive in the New Zealand series will be the supporting pacer to the veteran opening bowling pair of Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Anderson has recovered from his ankle injury and this means Jamie Overton misses out in the XI to make way for England’s highest Test wicket-taker.

England has gone in with only spinner in Jack Leach who will be in high spirits after his match-winning 10-wicket haul against New Zealand.
