England captain Joe Root won the toss and chose to bowl first. The home side made three changes bringing in Haseeb Hameed, Moeen Ali, and Mark Wood. Meanwhile, India made one change as injured Shardul Thakur made way for Ishant Sharma.

Given that rains preceded the toss and just when the innings started, it was expected as James Anderson and co will rout Indian batting with ease, and many thought that it would be a repeat of the 2018 Test match where India was defeated badly.

However, India openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul had other ideas as they endured a testing opening spell by Anderson, Robinson, Wood, and Curran, and then when conditions eased and they got comfortable with the bowling, opened their hands as well.

Rohit Sharma was the aggressive one hitting 11 fours and 1 six in his 145-ball knock. He was finally dismissed by an amazing ball by James Anderson for 83 runs. He had added 126 runs with KL Rahul, the first-century opening partnership overseas by an Indian pair after Sehwag and Gambhir’s effort in South Africa in 2010.

The cricket fraternity was all praiseful for Rohit Sharma’s brilliant knock and took to Twitter to laud him.
