Team India registered their sixth consecutive victory in the ongoing World Cup as they annihilated defending champions England by 100 runs at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Sunday (October 29).
Asked to bat first, the hosts posted 229/9 in their allotted 50 overs on a sluggish surface. Skipper Rohit Sharma top scored with 87 while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with a crucial 49-run knock.
David Willey was the stand-out bowler for England, claiming three wickets by conceding 45 runs in his 10 overs.
Defending the total, the pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami ran through England’s top-order. While Bumrah removed Dawid Malan (16) and Joe Root (0), Shami got rid of Ben Stokes (0) and Jonny Bairstow (14) to reduce the Three Lions to 39/4.
Afterwards, the Indian spinners stepped up to the plate. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Jos Buttler (10) and Liam Livingstone (27) whereas Ravindra Jadeja got the better of Chris Woakes (10).
In their second spell, Shami and Bumrah demolished the English tail and bundled them out for a paltry 129 in 34.5 overs. Shami returned with four wickets (4/22) in his 7 overs while Bumrah finished with 3 for 32 in his 6.5 overs.
For defending a small total, the Indian bowlers received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media platform X.
