Team India are currently facing England in Match 29 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
Asked to bat first, the hosts posted 229/9 in their allotted 50 overs on a slow surface. Skipper Rohit Sharma top scored with 87 while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with a crucial 49-run knock.
Defending the small total, the Men in Blue needed wickets with the new ball and the pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami did exactly the same.
Bumrah and Shami ran through England’s top-order and reduced the defending champions to 39/4. While Bumrah dismissed Dawid Malan (16) and Joe Root (0), Shami got rid of Ben Stokes (0) and Jonny Bairstow (14).
In particular, Shami’s wicket of Stokes caught everyone’s attention. It was the eighth over of the chase when the right-arm quick rattled the English all-rounder with one unplayable delivery after another.
As a result, Stokes was left frustrated and attempted a big shot on the last ball by giving himself room. However, he exposed all his stumps and was cleaned up by Shami.
