Chasing 273 to win, Rohit slammed a century off just 63 balls – the fastest by an Indian batter in World Cup history. He surpassed the record of legendary Kapil Dev, who had smashed a century in 72 balls during the 1983 World Cup against Zimbabwe.

The right-handed opener also broke quite a few records as he took the Afghanistan bowling attack to the cleaners.

Rohit became the highest century maker in World Cup with 7 tons to his name. Before this game, he was sharing this record with the great Sachin Tendulkar.

The Indian captain also overtook Chris Gayle’s tally (554) to become the most six hitter in international cricket. Before this match, Rohit had 551 sixes to his name across formats and he went past Gayle during his scintillating knock of 84-ball 131 against Afghanistan, which included 5 sixes.

Moreover, Rohit Sharma became the joint fastest to 1000 World Cup runs, taking 19 innings to reach the feat alongside Australia opener David Warner.

With this hundred, Rohit surpassed Australian legend Ricky Ponting’s tally of 30 ODI tons. He now has 31 ODI tons to his name and Virat Kohli (47) and Sachin Tendulkar (49) are ahead of him in the elite list.
