CWC 2023: WATCH- Virat Kohli leaves from Mumbai to rejoin India squad before World Cup opener

Kohli had flown back to Mumbai for personal reasons ahead of second warmup match.

Virat Kohli at Mumbai airport | InstagramAce India batter Virat Kohli has left Mumbai and will rejoin the Indian squad for the Men in Blue’s ICC World Cup (CWC) 2023 opening match. The World Cup which begins on October 5, will see India taking on Australia on October 8 in Chepauk.

Notably, Virat Kohli had flown to Guwahati for India’s first warm-up match against England with the squad. However, he left the squad with BCCI’s permission to attend something personal in Mumbai.

Kohli would have missed the second warm-up fixture against the Netherlands at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram had it taken place. However, the match had to be abandoned due to inclement weather.

Kohli will rejoin the squad in Thiruvananthapuram where Indian team is based and will then move to Chennai for their World Cup opener on Wednesday.

Cricbuzz reported that Virat Kohli has an important engagement with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the organizers of the World Cup. He will attend this engagement before flying to Chennai.

The customary photo-ops of all the captains of participating teams will take place in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The World Cup kicks off in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.
