Ahead of the showpiece tournament, England skipper Jos Buttler has revealed his choice of first five players he would pick in his ODI dream XI.

The first player in Buttler's list is his teammate Adil Rashid, a leg-spinner, who is expected to play a key role on the spin-friendly tracks of India during the World Cup. In his ODI career, Rashid has claimed 184 wickets from 126 matches so far. He was also part of England’s World Cup-winning team in 2019.

Quinton de Kock was the second player in Buttler’s exclusive list. The South African opener’s ODI stats speak for itself, with him having smashed 6176 runs and 17 centuries from 145 games.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma also made an appearance in Buttler’s list. Rohit was the top run-getter in the 2019 edition of World Cup in England, with 648 runs from 9 innings at an average of 81, including five centuries. He also has a record three ODI double tons to his name.

The next player Buttler opted for is Australian swashbuckler Glenn Maxwell, who was instrumental in Australia’s 2015 World Cup triumph. Apart from his hard-hitting, Maxwell can also dent the opposition badly with his part-time off-spin.

The fifth on the list is South African pacer Anrich Nortje, who will miss out on the World Cup 2023 due to injury.

England will begin their World Cup title defence against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 5.
