The two Kiwi veterans walked out onto the pitch carrying their kids ahead of the second Test match against Australia.

Williamson and Southee have been the magnificent servants of New Zealand cricket over the years. They played key roles in winning them the inaugural World Test Championship title in 2021.

Williamson was also given a standing ovation by the crowd at the Hagley Oval when he walked out to bat in the first innings. The batter, however, failed to score a big one as he got trapped in front of the wicket by Josh Hazlewood for 17 off 37 balls on a seaming pitch.

Coming to the match, New Zealand’s first innings folded for a paltry 162 in Christchurch. It was a listless batting display as no one managed to hit a half-century. Tom Latham was the top scorer with 38.

Hazlewood was the pick of the Australian bowlers, returning with a five-wicket haul (5/31) – his 12th in Test cricket. The likes of Mitchell Starc (3/59), Pat Cummins (1/35) and Camero Green (1/21) shared the remaining five scalps among them.

Having won the opening Test in Wellington by 172 runs, Australia have already taken an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
